Practical Droids

You are Getting a Mechanical Assistant Aren't You?

In the last couple of years, there has been an increased proliferation of droids. And this is not in the usual sectors like industries, where they have proven essential to the production process, but in medicine and in homes. With advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and nanotechnology, it is now easier to produce functional droids of benefit to the home user. Even the toys and pet segments has seen penetration of droids with the advent AIBO by Sony, Paro, Pleo and Genibo to name a few. These droids are interesting with robo-pups like Genibo having the ability to understand and respond to more than a hundred voice commands. And the likes of Paro "the fluffy seal" being able to deliver therapeutic care to its owner.

Chores at home are not left out either, Kyodo and iRobot made sure of that. My personal favorite is the iRobot Scooba 230, the latest in its floor scrubber range. It sure does come in handy especially where isolated places are concerned. Those of you interested in clean-trim lawn can also get a break with Kyodo's Lawnbott. The rugged looking fella does it as good as you could. The interesting thing most of all, is how these little assistants take up those time nibbing chores that we hate to do but have to get done. And the stage is set to get more interesting as the years go by, there is no doubt that the tasks droids are able to perform will get more complex as there presence becomes more prominent in our daily activities. Let's hope we all do not get obsolete by then.
